Geraldine Halls (the late)
(Pen name was Charlotte Jay)
Geraldine won the inaugural Mystery Writers of America Award for her book, Beat not the Bones.  The runner up was Raymond Chandler.  She has a lengthy list of both crime novels in the 1950s and what she described as her "quality novels" written in the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

She spent considerable time in countries such as India and Pakistan with Jonathan's grandfather, A.J. Halls.  This time inspired a number of her acclaimed novels including The Silk Project.

Because Geraldine lived for much of her life in Somerset and Chelsea, England, she sadly never developed a reputation as an Australian author.  To Australians, she always had a posh English accent.  To the Brits, she wasn't English.  Across the Atlantic, she was often referred to as English.

Here are some links to comments, reviews and infomation on how to get copies of her books.
